Tired of passwords?

Recent consumer surveys have shown that many users are tired of using passwords for all their online activities. If you count yourself among this group and, like most PSMail users, consider yourself  security conscious, the abundance of passwords can put even more strain on you as you are forced to  repeatedly create unique, complex passwords and remember them. The solution is using OTP (One Time Passwords).  OTP provides you with a randomized, temporary password that you don't have to remember. These passwords change on a regular basis (they may be valid for as little as 30 seconds) and eliminate the need for you to test your memory or your creativity. In addition, they actually provide a more secure way to access your resources (emails, files, personal information) online.

Gmail Just Now Catching Up to PSMail's Encryption Practices

Google has started a transparency report http://www.google.com/transparencyreport/saferemail/ to announce to the public the current encryption status of email. It shows how many email providers do not encrypt messages while in transit (basically while on the network). In contrast, PSMail has been providing network encryption since 2002.  This is true even for email transport to external providers whenever possible.

Using BoxCryptor with PSMail Cabinet

BoxCryptor is a solution to help protect your online files (such as the ones in PSMail's Cabinet) with additional encryption on a per folder basis.  Although PSMail encrypts both the network communications and data on the filesystem, you may have sensitive data for which you would like additional encryption using "EncFS" standard. This data can be encrypted and managed via a friendly and portable application like BoxCryptor,  which alows you to access the data on multiple computers, mobile phones, and/or tablets and secures it with strong encryption that's released via a password.

PSMail and Heartbleed

In the wake of April 7th’s disclosure of CVE-2014-0160, PSMail's team has been working - along with a number of other service providers and software vendors - to fix this issue. Though PSMail's servers use a number of OpenSSL libraries that were found vulnerable, we have taken this opportunity not only to make the necessary changes as quickly as possible, but to step back and analyze the broader issue, to identify what areas might be affected, and to work to provide the most comprehensive fix.

Webmail Done More Simply

In recent years, we've seen PSMail's webmail interface become more and more popular. This is only natural: as users become more used to the browser as their primary way of accessing a variety of content, webmail becomes a common method for accessing email. During this time of growth, we've enhanced our webmail's security by providing token based login, OTP (One Time Password) login, and virtual keyboard login. Security, as always, is our first priority.

Recent revelations about email metadata (like in this Forbes article) have highlighted the importance of metadata for any discussion about email security. They’ve also raised a very troubling question: can email ever be really secure?
